Christian-Friedrich Dallmann was born on 10 January 1955 near the university city of Greifswald, where he received initial instrumental tuition on the french horn and piano. He graduated from Berlin’s Spezialschule für Musik (now the Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Gymnasium) in 1973, and after completing military service in a brass band, began studying french horn at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin in 1975.

 

After winning first prize at the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen, he was given his first teaching assignments by his tutor Prof. Kurt Palm in 1978, initially at the Bach-Gymnasium, and later also as an assistant at the School of Music.

 

In 1978 Christian-Friedrich Dallmann was appointed principal horn of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (now the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin), a position he held for 20 years. Solo and chamber music performances with the Berlin Octet and concerts with his orchestra saw him play at many of the world’s most famous concert halls.

 

He was for many years a member of the Bachakademie Stuttgart. His deep and lasting interest in the practice of historical horn performance began in 1985, and he was a longstanding member of the Academy for Ancient Music Berlin. This period also saw him take a growing interest in conducting, underpinned by a two-year course of study in the subject at the School of Music.

 

As a horn teacher and rehearsal director, he has worked with Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, the German National Youth Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra Caracas, and the Tchaikovsky Youth Orchestra Yekaterinburg.

 

In 1996 Christian-Friedrich Dallmann was appointed honorary professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. He subsequently served as a juror at major international horn competitions.

 

In 2000 he was appointed full professor of horn at the University of Music Detmold. Berlin University of the Arts, where he leads a large international horn class, made him a full professor in 2004. His students are winners of international music competitions; nine of them are presently professors at European and Asian colleges of music.

 

Christian-Friedrich Dallmann is also a visiting professor at the Musashino Academia Musicae Tokyo and the Tchaikovsky Music College in Yekaterinburg. He has given courses in China, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, and, now for the second time, in Singapore.

 

In recent years Christian-Friedrich Dallmann has expanded his conducting activities. He works regularly with Concerto Brandenburg, an orchestra from Berlin whose members perform on historical instruments. Conducting engagements have taken him to the USA, Venezuela, Spain, and Russia.

1955년 독일 출생의 크리스티안-프리드리히 달만은 프렌치 호른과 피아노를 함께 배우기 시작하여, 1973년 베를린의 특별음악학교 (현 칼 필립 엠마뉴엘 바흐 김나지움)을 졸업한 후,  브라스밴드에서 군복무를 마치고 1975년 베를린 한스-아이슬러 음대에서 프렌치 호른을 전공했다. 대학 재학 중 독일 마르크너이키르헨 국제 콩쿨에서 1위를 수상한 후 1978년 자신의 지도교수인 쿠르트 팜의 추천으로  바흐 김나지움에서 학생들을 가르치기 시작하여, 후에는 음대에서도 팜 교수의 조교로 계속해서 학생들을 가르쳤다. 

 

 1978년 베를린 심포니 오케스트라 (현 베를린 콘체르트하우스 오케스트라)의 호른 수석으로 임명된 후, 20년동안 활동하면서 솔리스트 및 베를린 옥텟과 실내악 연주자로 세계 주요 공연장에서 연주활동을 해왔다.

달만은 호른 교수와 리허셜 디렉터로 다니엘 바렌보임의 웨스트 이스턴 디반 오케스트라, 슐레스비히-홀스타인 페스티발 오케스트라, 독일 국립 청소년 오케스트라, 영 저먼 필하모닉, 카라카스 시몬 볼리바르 심포니 오케스트라, 예카테린부룩 차이코프스키 오케스트라에서 가르쳤다.

1996년 베를린 한스-아이슬러 음대 명예교수로 임명된 달만은 세계 주요 국제 콩쿨 심사위원으로 활동하였다. 2000년에 데트몰크 음대 교수로, 2004년부터 베를린 국립 예술대(UdK) 교수로 재직 중이며, 그의 많은 제자들이 세계 주요 콩쿨에서 수상하고 있으며 또한 유럽과 아시아 여러 음대교수로 활동하고 있다.

이외에도 달만은 일본 무사시노 음대, 예카테린부룩 차이코프스키 음대 초빙교수로 가르쳤으며, 중국, 헝가리, 폴란드, 스위스, 싱가폴에 초대되어 가르치고 있다. 

​

최근 지휘자로도 활동하고 있는 달만은 고악기 연주단원들로 구성된 베를린에 있는 '브란덴부르크 콘체르토'와 정기적으로 일하고 있으며, 미국, 베네주엘라, 스페인, 러시아에 지휘자로 초빙되고 있다.
